Coming out of retirement

The dreadful beginning to the Tigers' season has brought me out of retirement. I am no longer eligible for the mlblog hall of fame, but that's ok.

First of all, I would like to reiterate a fact that I believe to be true: Money does not buy a winning team. I have known this for years. If I were to build my perfect team today, it would be filled with guys you probably haven't heard of. And they would be great. On the other hand, I am working on a Master's degree in Sports Administration so I know that the big money guys are the ones that fill the seats. Would you rather go see a Marlins team full of rookies or a 200 million-dollar Yankee team full of all-stars? Personally, I'd rather see the Marlins because rookies do great things and nobody notices. It's like being in on a secret.

I've never really liked Dontrelle Willis. Like many others before him, he brings alot of hype. I don't believe that he is an American League pitcher. When I first heard that the Tigers traded for him, I thought it was a mistake because I've seen nothing but regression in his career. He could prove me wrong, but I don't see him winning more than 10 games this year.

Furthermore, I think it was stupid to give up all of our minor league talent. Now we're back to where we were in the 90s, a team lacking talent in the farm system. Why put so much time and effort into developing these top notch prospects, and then just deal them away? I don't think it's worth it. You're paying a ton of money hoping for a short-term gain but not thinking about what will happen in the future. This team is trying way too hard to capitalize on the success of 2006, and I think deep down they know that the magic cannot be recreated by simply buying fancy new talent.

Hey, I could be wrong about all of this, but it's not too likely. Last year, I knew that the Indians would do well, and they did. Nobody gives me credit for what I know. I'm a woman, afterall.

A quick recap:-Kenny Rogers is making a start tonight in Toledo as part of his rehabilitation. I have no idea how it will play out when he returns because The Durbinator has been doing a heck of a job.
-Joel Zumaya is warming the bench and may not be back until next season. I'm sure gonna miss seeing those hardcore tattoos.
-Rodney is definitely earning that cool million. NOT.
-Brandon Inge may break my 7th grade CYO softball record for strikeouts in a single season.
-Bobby Seay is still the man. Justin Verlander, however, is not.
-I bet on the Indians to go to the World Series and I'm sticking to it.

Hey everyone-

I would just like to ask you all to keep Brian Bluhm in your thoughts and prayers. He was a student at Virginia Tech who was taken away from us far too soon. He was a true Tiger fan and a kind soul and he will be missed.

As I accurately predicted, the Tigers lost on opening day. I hope you all don't throw things at me when I say this, but I've always been a Blue Jays fan. Not as much as Detroit, but close. I'm always conflicted when they play each other. I think the Jays have a great team this year. They got rid of Ted Lilly and gained Frank Thomas. BJ Ryan seems to be healthy. Gregg Zaun calls a great game, so losing Benji Molina isn't really a loss at all. They also got that old guy, Royce Clayton. Just kidding! Overall, their lineup is killer. Especially with Vernon Wells. I could go on, but the point is that they are going to give New York and Boston a run for their money in the Eastern division. I hope they win it!

My prediction for the season is that the World Series will be played between the Indians and Dodgers. I also predicted the Indians in '05, and I was dead wrong. I have no idea who this year's Tigers will be. Maybe the Jays!

Didn't you miss my clever titles?
It's been forever and a day folks, but spring training is finally upon us. I think this was the fastest offseason in recent memory. At the moment I have a million papers to write (midterm week!), but as soon as I'm finished I will post much more, including pictures from Lakeland from the greatest resource in Florida, HueyTaxi.
